Stories behind the bubbles – sparkling wines of Hungary

Caroline Gilby MW (Sunday, 15th May)

15:00 – 15:45 | Wines of Hungary stand @Hall 11, D20 | language: English

Hungary has been making sparkling wines for more than a century. However, the last decade has brought about an explosion in sparkling wine production: many wineries that have never before tried their hands at sparkling have now joined the trend. What makes this masterclass exciting is the presentation of the various new routes Hungarian producers are taking. The speaker of this masterclass is Caroline Gilby MW who was among the very first wine professionals in the UK to facilitate the import of Hungarian sparkling wines.

Dr Caroline Gilby MW is a widely published wine writer, award-winning author and consultant specialising in the wines of Central and Eastern Europe. She is regional chair covering Hungary at Decanter World Wine Awards and in 2018 she became the first foreigner to be awarded the title of „Friend of Hungarian Winemakers”. She is also a member of the Confrérie de Tokaj.

We kindly ask all registered attendees for the masterclasses to arrive at the scene of the event at least five minutes prior the start time. After the start time the organizers maintain the right to assign vacant seats to walk-ins. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis at the counter and the tables around it.
