Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch) is grown on approx. 8000 ha in Hungary, an area larger than all other countries together. Even Austria has only 3000 ha planted. Quality-wise it is the best indigenous Hungarian red grape variety.
This specific Kékfrankos Reserve is made from Hungarian clones plus specially selected Austrian Blaufränkisch vines. It shows a classic style letting the pure flavour of this grape variety shine through – sour cherries and other red fruit, some spiciness, well integrated fine acidity with quite a long finish. The Austrian clones add structure and complexity. This wine can mature and continue to improve for at least the next 7 years.
This Kékfrankos goes well with Italian food, cold plates with salami and (smoked) ham, but also with typical Hungarian stews. To be served at 16 – 17 ˚C.
