Gabriella Mészáros DipWSET (Monday, 16th May)
13:00 – 13:45 | Wines of Hungary stand @Hall 11, D20 | language: English
It’s been more than ten years now that the first wave of single vineyard Furmints made us revise the generally held view that Tokaj is a predominantly sweet wine producing region. Since then lighter, fruitier dry Furmints as well as more ambitious ones with a focus on terroir expression have become a vital part of the Hungarian wine scene. Come and join us to learn about the variety that changed the way we drink the wines of the most renowned wine region of Hungary in a masterclass tutored by Gabriella Mészáros, an international wine scholar and Hungary’s leading wine educator.

Originally a lawyer Gabriella Mészáros was the first Hungarian to receive a diploma at WSET. She has been closely following the developments of the Hungarian wine scene since the 1990s. Her tasting notes and observations were made widely available through the publication of 16 editions of Borkalauz which were all edited by her. She was the founder of Hungary’s first wine school and for almost 30 years one of its preeminent lecturers. For the last twenty years she has been the chairperson of the annual wine selection program of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Relations. She’s a lecturer at Tokaj-Hegyalja University. The tastings and courses conducted by her have been major contributions to the advancement of Hungarian wine culture and wine quality.
